Ultimamente il mio interesse e la mia curiosità nel design sta crescendo in modo particolare: un po' perchè sto mettendo su casa, un po' per ragioni legate a questioni sentimentali. ;)
Certo, il mio interesse nel design è giocoforza fondamentalmente platonico, ma resta comunque un piacere. :)
... anche se, mi piacerebbe molto avere quest'orologio. ^^

Lately I have been developing a growing interest and curiosity towards design: on one hand because I am about to nest in my new place, on the other hand due to sentimental reasons. ;)
Sure, my interest in design is basically of a platonic kind, nevertheless it's a pleasure anyway. :)
... although, I'd really like to have the clock pictured below. ^^

Color IQ

Dopo essermi imbattuta in questo test per l'ennesima volta, ho deciso che a questo punto non posso non postarlo.
Scoprite la vostra abilità nel distinguere le sfumature di colore! Mi dicono che questo test funzioni meglio con lo schermo del pc fisso che con quello portatile.
Il test è stato elaborato dalla X-Rite, azienda produttrice di strumenti di misurazione e calibrazione del colore, con la quale una volta stavo quasi per fare un progetto di sviluppo di uno standard di colore da usare com lo stereomicroscopio.

After stumbling upon this test once more, I've decided that I ought to post it!
Find out your ability to distinguish little colour variations! I've heard that this test works best with a desktop screen, rather than with a laptop screen.
The test has been designed by X-Rite, a company that produces colour measurement and calibration instruments; a few years ago I nearly started a project with them, on the development of a colour standard for stereomicroscopes.

Tetris tiles

Visto che mi sto sistemando casa, non potevano non attirare la mia attenzione queste simpatiche piastrelle del Tetris... dubito però che potrei permettermele!

Since I am about to have my own home, these Tetris tiles have totally catched my attention... unfortunately I doubt I could afford them!

Questo nome curioso è uno dei tanti usato per indicare un liquido dalla caratteristica alquanto particolare: si può versare, e mescolare con un cucchiaio come un qualsiasi liquido, ma se invece viene colpito con forza, allora si comporta come un solido. Ci si può quindi ad esempio camminare sopra, o si può raccoglierlo a mani nude... e con l'ausilio di un subwoofer ed un getto d'aria si può essere anche alquanto creativi.
A noi scienziati un liquido con simili caratteristiche piace chiamarlo fluido non-Newtoniano (per distinguerlo da un liquido normale, che è un fluido Newtoniano).
In casa, si può realizzare semplicemente con acqua ed amido (ad esempio, maizena, che è amido di mais).

This funny name is used to indicate a liquid with a very peculiar characteristic: it can be poured, and can be stirred with a spoon like a common liquid, but, if stroken with force, it behaves like a solid. For example, one can therefore walk on it, or pick it up with bare hands... and, with the help of a subwoofer and a strean of air, one can also be rather creative.
Scientist like to call a liquid with such properties a non-Newtonian fluid (as opposed to a common liquid, which is a Newtonian fluid).
At home, one can make such a fluid with just water and starch (e.g. maizena, which is corn starch).
